Swap Tips
- Stop by our Facebook Page Maryland Poultry Swap & Farmers Market to stay in the loop.
- Some folks like to leisurely shop for new pets while others prefer to reserve in advance from individual sellers. So we have a Facebook event page that connects buyers here: The Swap Event Page .
- Bring a rolling cart. Smart shoppers know they're gonna stay a while and having a wagon or cart will make your day comfortable.
- Bring dog crates or cardboard boxes to take home your new critters. Sellers bring them too but they can run out fast. Take a few moments before you get here to poke some holes in them for ventilation.
- Get here early. We all know that "the early bird gets the worm" and this most certainly holds true at the MPS&FM. It's sort of like a very large yard sale. If you arrive after 11, be prepared for slim pick-ins' BUT, there is also a greater chance of doing some dickering as some sellers may be much more wiling to make a deal so they don't have to transport birds back home.
- Get the sellers contact info! With all the excitement, it's easy to forget, but when you get home there may be questions; How old are my birds? What did she say the breed was again? Most vendors offer receipts with their info but if they dont't, just ask them for a card.
- Be sure to check over potential new birds for health! Unthrifty birds will have much less of a chance to thrive when they get home. Be sure your new birds feel like they have a good weight for their size, have clean feathers and bright, clear eyes.
- Be prepared to stay awhile. We have fantastic live music, great food, and you'll see something new every time you take a stroll. Hours fly by before you know it so wear comfortable shoes and enjoy yourself.

Release of Liability
All sellers are independent storefronts owned and managed by the individual vendor. Moose Manor Farms is not affiliated with any other seller at the swap and cannot be held responsible for poultry purchased at the swap which are not what you agreed to purchase.
Yes, it's the sellers responsibility to be honest with you but also the buyers responsibility to do their homework and purchase wisely. Be sure you're ready to bring your pets home safely in well-ventilated containers and be sure you have food and water as well as sufficient housing with dry bedding when you get home. There will be feed vendors at the swap so plan accordingly.
If you really only wanted to buy hens, do some research so you can tell the difference between a rooster and a hen. If you only want to purchase very young pullets, be sure to communicate that to the selling vendor. Never expect your seller to take back roosters or drakes from a straight run purchase (craigslist them). If you later realize issues with your purchase, be sure to contact the selling vendor first for mediation - we are only the venue host not the seller!
